The 2nd Annual John Muir Trail (JMT) Hiker Survey was offered to 2014 hikers who planned hikes of at least five days including some portion of the JMT. Social media and on-trail recruitment were used to solicit responses. Approximately 80% of respondents planned hikes of 110 miles or more. Most hiked southbound and planned to exit immediately east of Mt. Whitney. The visualizations in this report are derived from a portion of the survery data and include both those who reached their intended exit point and those who exited earlier (about 25%). Note that the charts in the demographic section are interactive so you can explore respondents that fall into any combination of different groupings. To be notified when new reports are issued, Facebook users can follow the survey here. New reports are also announced on the Facebook and Yahoo groups dedicated to the John Muir Trail and sporadically distributed to survey participants who requested e-mail notifications.
